BREAKING: Former Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn Has Died

Very sad news has just come in to our desks as a popular Republican senator has died.

Former Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn has passed away after battling prostate cancer for many years.

Coburn retired from the Senate in 2015 after he was diagnosed with the disease and he died on Saturday, Fox News reported.

“Because of his strong faith, he rested in the hope found in John chapter 11 verse 25 where Jesus said, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, will live, even though they die.’ Today he lives in heaven,” the senator’s family said.

“He’s been fighting up to the very end,” a friend of the family said. “He was fighting for all of the things he still believed in.”

There was an outpouring of well wishes and praise for the senator on twitter after the news was announced.

“Saddened to hear the news of Dr. Coburn’s passing. Nobody voiced the serious concerns over waste in government and our nation’s long-term debt more strongly than Dr. Coburn. He leaves a lasting legacy for Oklahoma and our country. He will be missed, Oklahoma Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell said.

“Senator Tom Coburn was a great conservative voice in the United States Congress and American physician whose legacy will live on. Karen and I send our deepest sympathies and prayers to his family during this tough time,” Vice President Mike Pence said.

“Tom Coburn was a good friend and a hero for his strong stand for small government. He was fearless politically and a man of great faith. I called him over the past few months and he was in good spirits. He knew he had fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said.

“RIP Doc Coburn. One of the audience’s favorite guests and a wonderful gentleman and took his Christian faith so thoroughly whether into the Capitol or the mission field,” radio host Hugh Hewitt said.

“TOM COBURN, RIP I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my dear friend and great patriot Tom Coburn. What a selfless public servant and thoroughly decent human-being,” Fox News host Mark Levin said.

Very, very sad to hear the passing of my dear friend Tom Coburn. He was truly ‘Mr. Smith goes to Washington.’ Very glad his suffering is over and he is now with the Lord. Tom was a great senator, a terrific husband and father, and a dear friend,” Sen. Lindsey Graham said.

Sad news about the death of Tom Coburn, a one-of-a-kind senator who battled lawmakers from both parties over earmarks. He had been battling prostate cancer for years. As he was contemplating his future in 2014, he told me: ‘I’m a straight shooter,'” CNN reporter Manu Raju said.

Sorry to hear abt the death of my former colleague Tom Coburn of Oklahoma He was a watchdog for the taxpayer & a dedicated public servant Barbara & I send our condolences to his family,” Sen. Charles Grassley said.

There was no one like Dr. Tom Coburn—in the Senate or in Oklahoma. He was respected by everyone for a lot of things—a medical doctor, an intellectual, a fearless advocate against government waste, a sought after advisor—but more than that, he was a brother in Christ,” Sen. Jim Inhofe said.
