The Democratic-controlled House of Representatives committed political suicide three weeks ago and passed both articles of impeachment — obstruction of Congress and abuse of power — against President Donald Trump.
After a three week delay, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claims she will finally transmit the articles of impeachment to the Republican-controlled Senate this week.
But things took a turn recently when a new report seems to suggest Democrats could actually drop one of the impeachment charges and only send one to the Senate.
The White House is undoubtedly stunned by this news.
After months of claiming Trump is a threat to America and must be removed to save the country, now Democrats are contemplating dropping one of the charges?
George Conway — a left-wing lawyer who is married to White House adviser Kellyanne Conway — co-wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post in which he proposed that Democrats only send one of the impeachment articles to the Senate.
Under his plan, which is likely being debated now, the second article of impeachment — alleging “obstruction of Congress” — would be transmitted, but the “abuse of power” article would be withheld.
“Holding the first article back and letting the second go forward would be a powerful and precise response to McConnell’s unprecedented attempts to avoid committing to a real trial,” wrote Conway.
Why do this?
They claim there is no further evidence needed to establish that Trump attempted to stop the House from investigating him.
Conway and Katyal then argue it is impossible to hold a trial on the first article, which alleges Trump abused his power by using U.S. aid to pressure Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden, because of a lack of witnesses.
They blame Trump for the lack of witnesses — not the House’s refusal to call some of them, or to wait for the court to rule on whether they had to appear.
The two left-wingers argued in their piece:
Holding the first article back and letting the second go forward would be a powerful and precise response to McConnell’s unprecedented attempts to avoid committing to a real trial. It makes practical sense but also highlights what’s at stake here. Trump would be forced to undergo two impeachment trials instead of one — but that’s a fair price for him to pay for his attempts to hide evidence from the American people.
Of course, they are delusional.
By withholding one article and sending another forward to the Senate, the entire impeachment scam will be exposed yet again before the American people.
Democrats are complaining about Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell possibly holding an unfair investigation, but that’s literally what Democrats just did for three months.
Before the impeachment trial has even started in the Senate — Democrats are whining, issuing ridiculous demands, and already claiming the process is “rigged.”
McConnell has already revealed exactly what’s going to happen when the impeachment trial moves into the Senate.
None of this will surprise most.
After all, we just learned where Pelosi actually got her entire impeachment strategy from.
