There’s a lot of buzz surrounding the U.S. Supreme Court lately. Conservatives currently control a 5-4 majority on the nation’s highest court, and now there’s serious speculation circling throughout the mainstream media that at least 2 liberal Justices may retire in the near future.
Democrats are freaking out that President Donald Trump could add more conservatives to the Court given two of the most liberal Justices — Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer — could step down soon because they are “aging” and have “serious health issues.”
But that’s not what people are talking about this week.
U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts has denied the Democrats their long-sought object – Trump’s tax returns.
Robert’s issued a court order on Monday that placed an indefinite delay on the House Democrats’ demand for Trump’s financial records.
As reported by the Associated Press, here’s what Roberts said in the ruling:
Scuffles over President Trump’s tax returns are hardly new, although the stakes and the forum may be changing.
Anyone else would surely have handed them over before the 2016 election. But at this point, the President should arguably keep them private until the courts order otherwise.
His administration may well help him do that. It is not surprising that the President’s tax advisers are telling him to sit tight. In fact, as a lawyer for clients with tax problems, it hard for me to conjure up a tax reason for the President to reveal his returns for dissection.
Of course, this isn’t really about taxes. But political considerations may well cut the same way.
The decision is a win for Trump, and a humiliating black eye for his enemies in the House.
The court’s delay could extend for months if the justices decide they need to hear arguments and issue a written opinion.
Democrats have been trying desperately to get their hands on the last several years of Trump’s tax returns.
Not because they would be able to understand what they are reading, but because they want political ammunition and anything they can use to defeat the president in the upcoming election.
There is currently no law requiring U.S. presidents or presidential candidates to release their tax returns, but Democrats apparently don’t care about the rule of law.
This is the latest example of how extreme liberals are hellbent to trigger a real constitutional crisis in what will be a high stakes show down with the administration.
Now that their Russian collusion conspiracy theories blew up in their face, Democrats are trying to use “Trump’s taxes” as their new strategy to win the 2020 election.
Just like in 2016, most see that it won’t work.
