Martial artist and ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ star supports a proposal originally put forth by Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas
Lifezette reports: Actor Chuck Norris is known for his tough-guy persona, but he is also a man of ideas.
An outspoken conservative and supporter of President Donald Trump, Norris recently reaffirmed his backing of a wall along the United States’ southern border with Mexico — and he explained how he believes it can be funded.
Norris penned a column for WND, “An Incredible Solution to Building the Border Wall.”
In it, the actor and martial artist voiced support for a plan in which Mexican drug lord “El Chapo” — real name Joaquin Guzman — would pay for much of it.
The idea Norris supports initially came from Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’ EL CHAPO(Ensuring Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order) bill proposed in April 2017. It would make El Chapo forfeit his $14 billion in assets to the federal government at the conclusion of his trial.
That money would then be used for border security, including a border wall.
“Is Sen. Cruz’s EL CHAPO Act not a brilliant idea to fun the border wall between the U.S. and Mexico?” Norris asked. “And guess what? A Mexican pays for it after all — one evil hombre who has repeatedly raped America’s communities and the souls of precious millions through narcotics and other criminalities for the past three decades.”
Norris said he supports the idea because it would not use government funding to build the wall. It would be a hit to Mexican drug cartels and allow President Donald Trump to fulfill an important campaign promise.
“Let it be clear: Passing that single bill could be the compromise they all are looking for, and it is the best win-win-win-win solution the Congress and president could ever enact!” Norris said.
Currently, El Chapo is on trial in a Brooklyn federal court. He faces a life sentence for his actions as the alleged leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.
Norris has been a longtime supporter of a solid wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
He voiced support for the idea in a Creators Syndicate column back in 2009.
“We don’t need a government study on Mexican border safety conducted by newly installed Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano,” he wrote at the time. “We need action now!”
“Congress authorized a border fence in 2005. That was four long years ago, for anyone bad at basic math,” he added in 2009. “It approved $2.6 billion for border enhancement, but we still have illegals and contraband crossing our borders like gnats through a screen.”
In addition to showing support for border security, Norris also vouched for Trump prior to the 2016 election.
In July 2016, Norris said people with a negative view of him would be “pleasantly surprised” by Trump’s performance in office, if he were elected.
