Fauci Shuts Down Media: Trump Hasn’t Overridden Me, ‘Not Helpful’ to Pit Us Against Each Other

Just When You Thought the Establishment Media Couldn’t Sink Any Lower…

From National Sentinel: After President Donald Trump signaled on Tuesday he was ready to reconsider keeping the country shut down over coronavirus after his 15-day recommendations, the Leftist media went nuts.

Again.

The president did not say what he would or would not do, mind you, only that, given the massive multi-trillion dollar hit our economy has taken due to the tanking of the stock market and the loss of millions of jobs virtually overnight, he would ‘reconsider’ the situation at the end of March and ensure that the “cure” isn’t worse than the disease.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country’s chief infectious diseases expert, was once again caught in the middle by media jackals who couldn’t care less about the reality of what’s happening to millions of people versus the reality of a virus that is proving not to be the world-ending killer they have made it out to be.

But he pushed back on the media’s latest anti-Trump coronavirus narrative in an interview on WMAL’s “Mornings on the Mall” with Mary Walter and Vince Coglianese.

“Obviously, this is something that’s under very intense discussion,” Fauci said when asked about the 15 day social isolation idea pushed by Trump.

What the president is trying to do is to balance the public health issues with the fact that this is having an enormous impact on the economy, which may actually of the country – indirectly – even cause a considerable amount of harm and difficult even health wise,” he said.

That’s right; people with little money who have lost health insurance have less ability to stay healthy.

“So, it’s a delicate balancing act, which the president is trying to get it right, and we’re under very intense discussions right now about what the most appropriate timeline is and if we do modify it, how we modify it,” Fauci said.

Fauci’s Tuesday comments came after the president told reporters the day before that “our country wasn’t built to be shut down.” The president added that “America will again and soon be open for business” and reiterated his belief that the “cure” – social distancing – can’t be worse than the disease.

Politico reported that “Trump pushed back against health experts” after his Monday evening comments about ending strict social distancing guidelines. The article stated that many of Trump’s own health experts “have warned that it will be a matter of months before it will be safe to reopen the country again.”

“He even claimed, without evidence, that the economic downturn caused by continuing the social distancing recommendation could result in more deaths ‘than anything we are talking about with respect to the virus,’” Politico wrote.

‘Without evidence?’ Really? Maybe it’s Politico’s reporters who generally make statements ‘without evidence.’

Fauci noted in an interview with Science Magazine published March 22: “There is a discussion and a delicate balance about what’s the overall impact of shutting everything down completely for an indefinite period of time.

So, there’s a compromise. If you knock down the economy completely and disrupt infrastructure, you may be causing health issues, unintended consequences, for people who need to be able to get to places and can’t. You do the best you can,” he said.

The ‘mainstream’ media in America truly is a force for harm. They don’t inform, they don’t enlighten, they don’t add value to discourse or the conversation;  they attack those they disagree with politically and culturally, as if that was the founders’ true purpose behind the creation of a free press.

It’s pathetic, to be sure, but it’s also dangerous.

A partial transcript is as follows:

VINCE COGLIANESE: It seems like increasingly a bunch of questions from the media are designed to create a rift between you and the President of the United States, at least, to emphasize differences of opinion that creates distances between you and the president. Are you sensing that as the media continually asks you questions about the differences you have with him?

DR. ANTHONY FAUCI: That is really unfortunate. I would wish that would stop because we have a much bigger problem here than trying to point out differences. They really, fundamentally, at the core when you look at it, there are not differences. The president has listened to what I’ve said with the other people on the task force have said. When I’ve made recommendations, he’s taken them. He’s never countered and overridden me. The idea of pitting one against the other is just not helpful and I’d wish that would stop so we can look ahead at the challenge we have together to get over this thing.
