Chris Wallace Still Thinks Flynn Is Guilty

Fox News host Chris Wallace has become the number one resistance fighter on the network ever since Shepard Smith left.

He consistently looks for ways to attack the president, the administration and anyone who has ever been associated with the administration.

He did that again this week when, as evidence mounts that Gen. Michael Flynn was hoodwinked by the FBI, he made the case against Flynn.

It came a day after President Trump said, on Thursday, that Gen. Flynn was  “essentially exonerated” by the evidence.

“He’s in the process of being exonerated if you looked at those notes from yesterday. That was total exoneration,” he said.

“These were dirty, filthy cops at the top of the FBI, and you know the names better than I do. And they were dishonest people,” he said. “What they did to this man, they tormented him.”

In a Thursday morning tweet storm, the president promoted a Justice Department document disclosure in Flynn’s case, which included a handwritten note from former FBI counterintelligence director Bill Priestap, The New York Post reported.

Priestap wrote, after a meeting with then-FBI Director James Comey and then-Deputy Director Andrew McCabe: “What’s our goal? Truth/Admission or to get him to lie, so we can prosecute him or get him fired?”

At the time, the FBI was investigating whether Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia to undermine Hillary Clinton. A subsequent investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller found no evidence of collusion.

Lying to the FBI is a federal crime, but it isn’t always prosecuted. In a plea deal, Flynn agreed to cooperate with investigators. He’s now seeking to withdraw the guilty plea ahead of possible sentencing.

In what Flynn defenders see as a double standard, prosecutors recently decided not to prosecute McCabe, who was fired after an inspector general report identified multiple alleged lies to FBI officials about his role authorizing a leak to the media.

Flynn was fired by Trump in early 2017, less than one month into his administration, for lying to Vice President Mike Pence about his talks with Russia’s ambassador. In late 2017, Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to FBI agents about those contacts.

People supportive of Flynn have been calling for him to be pardoned or exonerated immediately and charges to be pressed against those at the head of the FBI during the investigation, including former FBI Director James Comey.

But not Wallace. The Fox News anchor sees guilt for Flynn and does not know why the president is supporting him.

“And I was kind of surprised that the President said yesterday, ‘Well, maybe I’ll bring him back to the White House.’ It was the President, before any legal case was brought, who fired Flynn because Flynn had lied about his conversation with the Russian ambassador to the Vice President, Mike Pence. Mike Pence came on ‘Fox News Sunday’ just before the inauguration in January of 2016 and said there was no discussion of that, and it turns out he was basing that on what Flynn had told him and that Flynn had lied to him,” he said.

“So I’m not quite sure I understand why people are all rallying to Flynn’s case. Did the FBI play hardball? Yeah. Guess what? The FBI plays hardball. And guess what? If you are talking to the FBI, and a lot of lawyers would say don’t talk to them unless you have to, don’t lie,” he said.

Wallace hardly ever has a nice word for the president, or anyone associated with him. He should move to MSNBC or CNN and be more at home.
