Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has stunned Democrats by not only smacking down their latest pipe dream, she’s also been oddly siding with President Donald Trump on key battles.
Ginsburg temporarily staved off the efforts of House Democrats to get their hands on Trump’s financial records.
Ginsburg issued a stay, meaning that Deutsche Bank AG and Capital One Financial Corp. do not have to comply just yet with an order from the Second U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that said the banks must give House Democrats the records they have subpoenaed.
“It is the interest of two congressional committees, functioning under the authority of a resolution of the House of Representatives authorizing the subpoenas at issue, to obtain information on enforcement of anti-money-laundering/counter-financing of terrorism laws, terrorist financing, the movement of illicit funds through the global financial system including the real estate market, the scope of the Russian government’s operations to influence the U.S. political process, and whether the Lead Plaintiff was vulnerable to foreign exploitation,” the three-judge panel had written in ordering access be granted.
Ginsburg, who in the past has made no secret of her disdain for Trump’s policies, was involved in the case because she is the justice who is assigned to handle emergency appeals from cases in the Second Circuit.
Ginsburg’s action is designed to give the full Supreme Court time to consider the arguments from Trump’s lawyers that House Democrats should be denied access to the records they are seeking.
This is the second time recently where RBG has sided with Trump.
While speaking at the University of Chicago in November, the 86-year-old liberal justice smacked down an idea from socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and others to abolish the Electoral College.
RBG said Americans should focus on change that is realistic rather than going after something as radical as abolishing the system used for hundreds of years to decide the winner of presidential elections in the United States.
Ginsburg is arguably the most liberal justice on the Supreme Court.
The fact that she is against the Democrats latest radical idea of abolishing the Electoral College is a big deal — and it likely won’t sit well with Democrats.
While all of this has been going on, Ginsburg also made headlines last month after she fell ill again and was hospitalized.
After being treated for a possible infection, the oldest serving justice returned to the court after being hospitalized for at least the third time this year.
Ginsburg previously missed oral arguments before the Court after she reportedly come down with another illness, this time it was a “stomach bug.”
Before that, Ginsburg completed three weeks of radiation therapy at a New York City hospital to treat a malignant tumor on her pancreas.
Obviously keeping the most liberal justice on the court is more important to Democrats than her health and well being.
While many have wished nothing but the best for Ginsburg, it’s clear that her health issues have gotten worse.
And the fact that she still continues to suffer from so many health scares has many asking if it’s time for RBG to retire.
