Former South Carolina Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy remains a thorn in the side of Democrats. No one has done more to call out and destroy corrupt officials.
But things kicked up a notch this week when Gowdy shared a secret about why Democrats actually launched their impeachment efforts against President Donald Trump.
During an interview Thursday night with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Gowdy said his theory as to why it’s happening is quite different than what it appears to be on the surface.
Most of us believe Democrats want Trump out of office and used impeachment as a means to an end — but in reality, they know that it would never happen in a Republican-controlled Senate.
Gowdy believes they have an ulterior motive — more of a long-term play to cripple Trump’s presidency.
The former South Carolina lawmaker believes the impeachment tactic is an attempt to make it easier for Democrats to win more Senate seats in 2020 — enough to gain control of the upper chamber — which would all but cripple Trump’s ability to get anything done in his last four years in office.
Gowdy said he’s been secretly thinking this for awhile, but after seeing how Democrats handled the impeachment witch hunt, it’s clear to him that this is what liberals are trying to do.
“There is no mathematical way he is ever going to be convicted and they know that,” Gowdy said.
“So their goal cannot be to remove Donald Trump from office, it is to neuter his second term. I think he is going to win in November. It’s to neuter that second term by targeting the Cory Gardners and the Martha McSallys and the Thom Tillises and the Susan Collins and Joni Ernst because if Trump wins and doesn’t have the Senate then he is not going to get any judicial vacancies filled and he’s not going to replace a Supreme Court Justice if he or she retires,” he added.
Gowdy went on to explain the possible consequences of Trump not having the support of a Republican-controlled Senate.
“He is he not going to get the foreign policy he wants,” Gowdy continued. “He is not going to get the cabinet he wants. I never thought this was about removing Donald Trump because they’re not going to do it. It’s about putting Cory Gardner in a really tough series of votes so he has to defend him in November of this fall.”
At this point, almost everything has come to fruition. We know how this is going to play out.
Will Trump be completely acquitted and fully exonerated in the Senate? Yes.
Will Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell recuse himself from leading the Senate impeachment trial into Trump? Not a chance.
Democrats have no case.
They are complaining about McConnell possibly holding an unfair investigation, but that’s literally what Democrats just did for three months.
When Democrats held Soviet-style trials and limited the other side from having any say at all — there was no problem at all.
But before the impeachment trial even begins in the Senate — Democrats are whining, issuing ridiculous demands, and already claiming the process is “rigged.”
Finally, the other team is up to bat and Democrats are screaming that the trial — which has not even happened — it totally unfair.
They have accused Trump of just about everything imaginable, and after months of wasting millions of dollars from taxpayers to hold impeachment hearings, they still can’t prove the president did anything wrong.
And McConnell has already revealed exactly what’s going to happen when the impeachment trial moves into the Senate sometime this month.
