Former Vice President Joe Biden is the official frontrunner for the Democratic nomination.
But are voters actually wanting to turn on him and go with another candidate who is not even officially in the 2020 race?
While Biden has been largely hidden during the coronavirus pandemic, one top Democrat has been on television a lot — New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Some Democrats are apparently very worried about what could happen if Biden gets the nomination given the questions surrounding his possible mental decline.
And according to National Review, liberals could be looking for an outside liberal like Cuomo to jump in at the last second to take on President Donald Trump in the general election.
From National Review:
Democrats are publicly talking about “contingency options” for their July convention in Milwaukee in case the coronavirus persists in being a public-health threat. But privately, some are also talking about needing a Plan B if Joe Biden, their nominee apparent, continues to flounder.
Some Democrats are openly talking up New York governor Andrew Cuomo, whose profile has soared during the crisis, as a Biden stand-in. Yesterday, a Draft Cuomo 2020 account on Twitter announced that “Times have changed & we need Gov. Cuomo to be the nominee. Our next POTUS must be one w/an ability to lead through this crisis.”
The National Review story cites a report from the New York Times, where other top figures are speculating about dumping Joe for Cuomo.
Charles Pierce, the politics blogger for Esquire magazine, wrote a piece headlined “With Two Words, Andrew Cuomo Established Himself as the Leader This Country Needs Now.” He enthused that Cuomo’s news conference last Friday “essentially (shutting) down the economy of his state . . . was a master class in leveling with the public.”
As today shld be the start of baseball, let me offer an analogy: let's take out a tired starter who's been wobbly through 4 and is gonna get shelled in the later innings. Let's go to the bullpen and bring in a real ace. Biden should step aside and let @NYGovCuomo be the nominee!

What do you think the odds are that Biden will be sidelined by illness, and that the Democratic convention will name Andrew Cuomo as the party's presidential candidate?

Just consider that.
A few months before Biden is pretty much guaranteed to secure the Democratic nomination, major liberal outlets like the New York Times and Esquire are running pieces about insiders very worried about Biden and whether Dems could select someone else to run against Trump.
And in light of Cuomo holding press conferences with the public almost daily to discuss the coronavirus and its spread in New York, he is getting an insane amount of air time to speak to Americans across the country.
This, apparently, has led to some Democrats considering pulling a super-fast-one on the July convention and nominating Cuomo.
Also, consider how much chaos that would create. After a long and crazy primary, would the Democratic National Committee actually nominate a man not even running?
It’s highly unlikely this will happen. Most, if not all, reading this know that Biden will secure the nomination and that there’s no way the DNC would take it from him if he wins enough delegates.
But it speaks volumes that Biden can’t even get the full backing of his own party. At least they all rallied around Hillary Clinton back in 2016.
Things have no been doing well for Biden lately, either.
His vice presidential “short list” has 3 names on it that most voters are probably not happy about.
