House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler has been trying to bring down President Donald Trump for over two years.
After former Special Counsel Robert Mueller failed to produce anything Democrats could use, Nadler has revealed the date for when a vote will be set.
Nadler has announced that his committee will vote on Thursday to officially formalize procedures to set up hearings to determine whether the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives will introduce articles of impeachment against Trump.
In other words, Democrats could be days away from officially holding a vote in the House to impeach the president.
Nadler released a theatrical and over-the-top statement on Monday claiming Trump’s “crimes and corruption extend beyond what is detailed in the Mueller report.”
The Hill reported:
Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said the committee will vote Thursday on a resolution that would solidify several key policies, including that the panel’s staff be allowed to question witnesses for an additional hour — split equally between the majority and minority — after each committee member goes through their five-minute line of questioning.
Judiciary’s subcommittees would also be able hold hearings as part of the probe, paving a way for Nadler to punt less-important witnesses down the line and save time.
The Democrats would also allow Trump’s legal counsel to respond in writing to evidence and testimony presented to the committee.
“The adoption of these additional procedures is the next step in that process and will help ensure our impeachment hearings are informative to Congress and the public, while providing the President with the ability to respond to evidence presented against him,” Nadler said in a statement. “We will not allow Trump’s continued obstruction to stop us from delivering the truth to the American people.”
“Trump’s crimes and corruption extend beyond what is detailed in the Mueller report,” Nadler said. “The President is in violation of the emoluments clauses of the Constitution as he works to enrich himself, putting the safety and security of our Nation at risk. He has dangled pardons, been involved in campaign finance violations and stonewalled Congress across the board, noting that he will defy all subpoenas.”
Nadler has been coming up with new ideas for months in order to give Democrats a reason to vote on impeachment.
Last week, Nadler opened an investigation into whether Trump engaged in illegal activity pertaining to hush-money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels and Stephanie McDougal before the 2016 presidential election.
Before that, Nadler’s committee sued in federal court for access to grand jury evidence from the Mueller probe that Democrats claim they need to determine whether to begin impeachment proceedings against Trump.
In other words, this is the Witch Hunt 2.0.
Here’s the cherry on top: Nadler is threatening Attorney General William Barr because he won’t allow the Department of Justice to reveal sensitive information redacted in the Mueller report.
That’s right — Nadler wants to sue Barr because the AG won’t break the law to reveal sensitive and classified information.
