House Speaker Nancy Pelosi apparently thinks she is calling the shots and running the United States.
Over the weekend, the California Democrat made it clear that she is not happy about the Trump administration planning to cancel foreign aid.
In a Sunday letter to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Pelosi warned that proposed cuts to the $4.3 billion in foreign aid already appropriated by Congress could put a budget deal with the White House in jeopardy.
“I request that you work within the Administration to stop this proposed rescission, which GAO [Government Accountability Office] states is illegal, which violates the good faith of our budget negotiations, which important Republicans say is ill-advised, and which overrides Congress’ most fundamental Constitutional power,” Pelosi wrote in the letter to Mnuchin.
Pelosi’s liberal allies are also seething that the Trump administration is considering making cuts to the $4.3 billion in taxpayer dollars that are scheduled to be sent as foreign aid.
“The Trump administration’s continued efforts to illegally withhold funding that Congress has approved subverts critical norms in our democratic process,” Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) said in a statement on Friday.
“We are insisting that the administration spend the appropriated foreign assistance funds, and are working with GAO to make sure the law is followed,” she added.
Perhaps Pelosi’s anger stems from the fact that she hasn’t been getting her way on several things lately.
After the two deadly shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, that occurred earlier this month, Pelosi tried to shame Trump into enforcing “red flag laws,” which allow courts to order law enforcement officers to seize guns from people they deem “unfit” to own a firearm.
Trump has not caved to the latest liberal attempt to erode the Second Amendment and disarm the public.
Late last month, Pelosi fell into a trap that Trump set for her.
Trump called out Maryland Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings for allowing Baltimore, which is part of the district he represents, to become “rat infested,” “filthy,” and “overrun with crime.”
Almost immediately after Pelosi accused Trump of being racist, a video from 2015 resurfaced showing former President Barack Obama trashing Baltimore for horrendous conditions and crime.
Before that, Pelosi just got the last news she ever expected about impeaching Trump.
Since former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s disastrous congressional testimony, over 100 House Democrats have come out in support of impeachment.
This is bad news for Pelosi because she has not only been publicly against impeachment.
Pelosi desperately wanted to avoid this, but more than half of all Democrats in the House now support the one action she is against.
She knows that impeachment would be political suicide for the Democrats heading into 2020 — but apparently the radical wing of the Democratic Party is now calling the shots.
