House Speaker Nancy Pelosi knows the wagons are circling — and her days in office could soon be numbered.
Pelosi dominated the headlines following President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address after she, sitting directly behind the president, ripped up his speech for all the world to see.
After throwing an anti-Trump temper tantrum for the world to see, one top Democrat is calling on her to resign from office for her “disgraceful” actions.
In an op-ed for The Hill, George Washington Law Professor Jonathan Turley — who was called as one of the witnesses in the House impeachment trial back in December — wrote that Pelosi should resign after slighting Trump while introducing him at the State of the Union and for ripping up his prepared remarks.
Turley wrote for The Hill:
First, Pelosi dropped the traditional greeting before the start of the address, “Members of Congress, I have the high privilege and distinct honor of presenting to you the president of the United States.” Instead, she simply announced, “Members of Congress, the president of the United States.” It was extremely petty and profoundly inappropriate. Putting aside the fact that this is not her tradition, but that of the House, it is no excuse to note that the president was impeached.
Pelosi has demolished decades of tradition with this poorly considered moment. Of course, many will celebrate her conduct and be thrilled by the insult to Trump. However, even those of us who disagree with his policies should consider what Pelosi destroyed in her moment of rage. She shredded the pretense of governing with civility and dignity in the House. Notably, she did not wait to rip up her copy of the speech until after she left the House floor. Pelosi wanted to do it in front of the cameras, at the end of the address with the president still in the chamber.
That act was more important to Pelosi than preserving the tradition of her office. In doing so, she forfeited the right to occupy that office. If Pelosi cannot maintain the dignity and neutrality of her office at the State of the Union, she should resign as the speaker of the House of Representatives.
While Trump was concluding his speech and saying “God Bless America,” Pelosi was seen ripping up the historic document.

After she stomped out of the chamber, Pelosi immediately jumped into damage control and revealed why she tore up the president’s speech.
Asked about her disrespectful actions, Pelosi told reporters that ripping up his “dirty speech” was the “courteous” thing to do considering the “alternative,” which she chose not to specify.
“It was the courteous thing to do, considering the alternative,” she said.
To make matters worse for Pelosi, the Senate voted last Wednesday to acquit the president of both bogus charges.
Beyond that, Pelosi continues to make the perfect case for term limits. She’s at the top of a very long list of career politicians that many believe should retire.
And her despicable behavior at the SOTU address reveals that even Democrats are growing tired of her antics.
