Top Trump Official Resigns After Ridiculous Media Hit Piece

The liberal mainstream media has made it clear its main goal is to go after President Donald Trump — but they also want to bring down members of the president’s administration.

The latest sickening example of this came this week when Bloomberg published a salacious hit piece that resulted in a top Trump administration official resigning to avoid embarrassing the president.

Leif Olson, a newly appointed Trump Labor Department official, resigned after Bloomberg Law requested comment from the White House about a joke he posted on his personal Facebook page back in 2016.

Olson, who only worked at the Department of Labor for 18 days before resigning, wrote a Facebook comment “suggesting the Jewish-controlled media ‘protects their own,’” Bloomberg reported.

However, the hit piece purposefully cropped out a comment on Olson’s post indicating that his message was a joke.

The full Facebook post includes a comment reading “I’m trying to figure out the correct response to epic sarcasm…you speak sarcasm like it is your first language.”

This comment was not included in Bloomberg Law’s article — and it’s obvious that they left it out on purpose.

Below is a screenshot of the full Facebook post in question:

Bloomberg Law cropped out the portion of the comment thread which clearly asserted that Olson’s comments were a joke.

“It was sarcastic criticism of the alt-right’s conspiracy theories and anti-Semitic positions,” Olson said in an interview, according to Bloomberg Law.

Bloomberg Law reporter Ben Penn, who wrote the hit piece, stated that the post “started as a sarcastic quip” and “devolved into an exchange referencing two anti-Semitic tropes: that Jews control the media and that they look out for members of their own faith.”

Clearly that is not true.

Penn and Bloomberg were ruthlessly mocked and called out on Twitter by several prominent media figures for running such a dishonest piece.

The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway tweeted that the article was “dangerous and malicious propaganda against Republicans.”

Rod Dreher, a senior editor at The American Conservative, tweeted that the article was “a revolting smear,” adding that it’s “a perfect example of how (according to a defector friend) our society is coming to resemble communism: leftist media figures will distort and even lie to destroy reputations and careers of their perceived enemies.”

The Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro tweeted out against the article, writing that it is “a joke.”

In fact, the Bloomberg report was so terrible that even Matthew Gertz, a senior fellow at the far-left group Media Matters for America, took issue with it.

“These Facebook posts all read as really obvious sarcasm, a fact that is even more clear if you know anything at all about Paul Ryan’s primary opponent,” Gaetz wrote.

Soon after the backlash began to build online, Penn tried to justify his report by asserting that this was somehow President Trump’s fault for hiring “these people.”

“This is the latest in a series of mishaps under the Trump administration personnel vetting system,” Penn tweeted. “What makes this one remarkable is that Olson’s Facebook page was public to his non-friends. Any cursory screening of his social media accounts could’ve uncovered the anti-Semitism.”
