Donald Trump promised voters on the campaign trail in 2016 that he would be the most pro-life president if elected. After almost three years in office, many would agree it’s more than clear Trump has passed a slew of policies aimed at advancing the pro-life movement in America.
And this week, the president achieved what former President Barack Obama refused to do when he was in office for eight years.
As noted by Life News, Trump just defunded a massive liberal organization that has been using taxpayer money from Americans to support abortion across the world.
For the third year in a row, Trump ordered the defunding of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), a United Nations population control agency which promotes abortions worldwide.
Trump’s decision means the pro-abortion UN group will not receive $32.5 million in taxpayer funds to push abortion.
Instead, the the funds will be used for family planning and women’s health initiatives that do not involve abortion.
The president, honoring his promise to pro-lifers, has renewed the order every year since 2017.
To compare, Obama resumed U.S. taxpayer funding of UNFPA in 2009 and continued supporting the abortion program up until he left office.
Between 2009 and 2016, Obama sent over $300 million in taxpayer money to UNFPA.
Leaders of pro-life organizations applauded Trump for defunding the group for the third year in a row.
Reggie Littlejohn, president of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, also praised the president for his pro-life policies.
“UNFPA has been found to be complicit with coercive population control in China in the past, and I have no doubt that any unbiased investigation would find them complicit again. I have long advocated for the defunding of UNFPA.”
“Not only has President Trump reinstated the Mexico City Policy, he’s modernized it by applying it to all foreign health assistance programs,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser.
He added: “For nearly a decade under President Obama, Americans have funded UNFPA, which has a long history of involvement in China’s brutal birth limitation policy – enforcement of which routinely includes the atrocity of forced abortions. Thanks to President Trump, the Secretary of State is directed to ensure Americans are no longer complicit in violating the dignity of women and children overseas. No longer will abortion be a top U.S. export.”
Trump has proven time and time again that his administration will fight for the lives of unborn babies.
Earlier this month, the United States largest pro-life organization announced their endorsement of Trump for the 2020 presidential election.
The National Right to Life Committee released a statement stating their endorsement for the re-election of Trump and praised him for his major efforts to advance the pro-life movement.
“As our nation celebrates Independence Day, we are proud to endorse the only presidential candidate who stands for the unalienable right to life,” said Carol Tobias, president of the National Right to Life Committee.
“From his first day in office, President Trump and his Administration have been dedicated to advancing policies that protect the fundamental right to life for the unborn, the elderly, and the medically dependent and disabled,” she added.
Back in March, Kathleen Eaton Bravo, CEO and founder of The Obria Group Inc. and Obria Medical Clinics, praised Trump for giving her pro-life groups $5.1 million over three years for use in California, a grant that once would have gone to Planned Parenthood.
Obria, which operates 21 health clinics and 11 mobile clinics in five states, does not perform abortions.
The Department of Health and Human Services announced Friday that Obria Group will receive three years of Title X family planning funding to expand services to low-income individuals and families in four California counties.
Trump continues to prove that unlike Obama, when he makes a promise to voters, he will get the job done.
